We created the early stage venture fund we wish had existed when we started our first companies.


Tangible value-add

Given our own entrepreneurial background, we strongly believe that finding the right investor for the right stage of your company can make all the difference.

This is why we encourage every early stage company to find investors who can bring something to the table apart from just writing the initial check. This might be relevant operational experience to really understand your business now, and the challenges ahead. It might be a Rolodex containing the list of your first customers, or access to follow-on funding, or whatever else might be of value to you in that particular moment. Crucially, always make sure there is a good personal fit as well! After all, you’ll likely not get rid of each other for the next seven to ten years.

We created Cavalry to be that investor.

Real operations know how

As entrepreneurs, we have been fortunate enough to co-found, scale and sell successful companies over the past 15 years (the most recent one being Delivery Hero). Three of us currently still run our own startup business, and given our community of 200+ founders, supporters, experts and investors, the chances are high that at least one of us shares some operational experience that will be of value to your business.

With Cavalry we leverage the wisdom of this community to create actual operational and strategic value for our portfolio companies. How might this look? Well, we might provide an expert who can support you with your SaaS company’s pricing strategy, or connect you with a founder who currently works on a similar marketplace model, just in another vertical.

Entrepreneurial talent

Convincing the best employees in the market to come work for your company ultimately remains your responsibility as founders. But we support the process on multiple levels. We will review our own network to source key hires (we introduced Mario from ShowHeroes to his co-founders for example). We’ll also leverage our strong ties to recruiters and connect you with the right ones at the right time (while providing friends and family rates of course).

Network access

With strong ties into the old economy and German Mittelstand in particular (i.a. real estate, trade/logistics, manufacturing and media) and deep connections within the European startup ecosystem, we are able to connect founders with the right catalysts early on.

For example, to kickstart their business, we introduced FreightHub to various potential clients and companies trading internationally, which has served FreightHub as a platform for growth.

Fundraising support

While there is usually no way to shortcut the fundraising process, we strongly believe founders (especially at an early stage) should be able to focus on building their business instead of going door-to-door, chasing investors for months.

This is why we keep the distraction to a minimum and help streamline your fundraising process in any way possible – from sparring over the initial strategic decisions to committing on the growth story, helping to create the pitch deck and giving warm intros to the most relevant follow-on investors in the market.

Our mission is to support you in getting from the initial Seed round to a Series A setup that promises the most value for your business.

What do we focus on?

The earlier you call in the Cavalry, the bigger the impact of our support can be on the success of your company. This is why our initial investment (in 99% of the cases) takes place at the Angel or Seed stage.

We aim to be the first investors in your startup.

We invest in digital businesses across sectors and do not necessarily have a focus theme. We like to invest in teams that have a big vision, that want to have an impact and are either defining their own industry or are drastically changing the way business is done in a large existing market.

Do we have a geographic focus?

We primarily invest in German and European based companies. Occasionally we break out of that regional scope if a trusted relationship with the founding team already exists, and we see tangible upside potential for the company when working with us, rather than getting a local investor on board.

What are the main criteria for us to invest?

  • Does the company have a complimentary founding team with relevant experience and industry expertise?
  • What is the (obtainable) market size and does the business primarily scale through technology?
  • Do we believe teaming up with the Cavalry has the potential to provide an unfair advantage for the company?

If all of these check out and your company is going strong, the odds are good that we want to join forces and become part of your success story.
